Abstract

Background: Animal species are widely used in community settings for different purposes. Similarly the use of animals in research projects is another significant and controversial approach.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to explore the different viewpoints and perspectives on a controversial subject about using animals in scientific researches.

Methods: It is a comprehensive review article rather than systematic review; involving published research articles from different databases. The databases of Medline, Science Direct and EBSCOhost online research databases were used for gaining knowledge and information.

Results: The most relevant claim against this topic was that animals have pain sensations and equal rights for survival. The second claim, which was made in the favor of this subject, was that the use of human beings is impractical because of numerous life threatening complications.

Conclusion: It was concluded that the trends that support using animals in research are more acceptable and convincing.
