INVOLUNTARY RESETTLEMENT POLICY AND PRAXIS IN KENYA: CONFORMING WITH THE NATIONAL LAND REFORMS

Land reforms in respect to involuntary resettlement are being implemented in developing countries. In Kenya, the National Land Policy and the Constitution 2010 have highlighted major land reforms in the management and administration of involuntary resettlement. Therefore, it is important to examine the policy framework and praxis in order to establish the extent to which they conform to the land reform ideals and make recommendations to address the shortfalls if any. A structured questionnaire formulated along the legal framework was administered randomly to the four cluster strata under study to bring out the socio-cultural and economic variables affected in involuntary resettlement. The responses were subjected to Analysis of Variance, Regression and Pearson Bivariate analyses to identify the shortfalls, which were accorded to inadequacy in policy and legal frameworks that favored capitalistic praxis at the expense of socio-cultural and economic formations in resettlement.
